Sung Yuri VS Kwon Yuri: Fashion Showdown

On the 6th of September, the Salvatore Ferragamo 2011 Autumn/Winter fashion show was held at the Seoul W Walker Hill Hotel.
First generation girl group Finkl’s member, now turned actress, Sung Yuri, and highly popular Girls’ Generation’s Yuri attended the fashion show, making it a star-studded event. Along with having the same names, they garnered attention for appearing in different fashion styles very unlike their innocent, cute image often portrayed on television. They captured the attention of fans by showing a sexy, glamorous look, as well as a chic, mannish look in black and white. Let’s take a deeper look at their newly attempted fashion styles.
Sung Yuri, sexy with an exposed back fashion

Ever since she has been a Finkl member, Sung Yuri earned much love for her innocent, cute image. Even after time passed and Sung Yuri grew into an actress, she is one celebrity that is known for looking young with her white skin and distinct features. But, it might have been her wanting to let go of that image because she howed off her sexy side with a brave exposed fashion, much unlike what she’s shown on various dramas and other events. Sung Yuri showed off a sexy and glamorous look with her white halter neck sleeveless, which was emphasised with spangles. Her black, straight pants puts more focus on her shirt.
Girls’ Generation’s Yuri turned up in a slightly mannish, black suit.

As a member of Girls’ Generation, Yuri has shown the ‘disappearing pants’ fashion, showing off her long, tight legs as well as her slim waist, along with sequined jump suits. However, at the fashion show, Yuri wore a black, suede-material suit, giving off a masculine feeling. Rather than giving off a showy, cheerful feel, putting more emphasis on feminine beauty, Yuri gave off a more boyish feel with white and black, and her bold belt and jewellery, along with other accessories, added onto her chic appeal.

Taeyeon’s Airport Fashion Becomes a Hot Topic

Taeyeon, one of the members of the national and continental stars, Girls’ Generation, has captured the public’s attention with her chic airport fashion.

With many national idols diversifying into international promotions, viewing airport fashion has become a common trend. Taeyeon, en route to Taiwan for a concert on the 9th of September, was of no exception as a fashionista in showing a style which she pulled of effortlessly.

Taeyeon matched a white printed tee with shorts and highlighted her outfit with a military-inspired jacket, completing a look that looks both comfortable as it does bold.
Her jacket, a piece with luxurious gold chain lining, is from the new contemporary brand, Lewitt. The unique design of the jacket, its short length and complementary lines, gives a rare feminine edge to the khaki-military style.

Netizens reacted by commenting “a true fashionista, she looks comfortable and bold”, “please let me know where I can purchase this” and “Girls’ Generation airport fashion is always stylish”

Sunny Confesses on “Strong Heart” that Boom Obsessed Over Her

On September 6th, during SBS’s “Strong Heart”, Sunny stated, “There was one person who constantly contacted me,” revealing how Boom obssessed over her during his time in the army.
Sunny said, “[Boom] constantly contacted me. He asked for my help. I received a video call. A close oppa’s face appeared and he said, ‘Sunny, don’t hang up’. He said, ‘Hold on,’ and I saw extremely excited soldiers.

At the time, Sunny didn’t have any make-up on, but Boom said, “You’re very pretty and perfect. Could you say hi?” In the end, Sunny showed her aegyo saying, “Oppas, I bet you’re tired. Fighting!”
Sunny added, “[Boom] called me late at night and even called collect. If I say ‘I’m a bit busy’ [trying to hang up], he would say ‘This is burdensome, right? Well, Kang Hodong and Yoo Jaesuk are national MCs, they’re the best. But how long do you think they’ll be the greatest? I don’t think they’re going to last much longer. They need young blood. It’ll open up soon’.”
Boom was sweating bullets and said, “I was 100% joking,” to which Sunny refuted, “I could feel his sincerity.” During the same call, Sunny revealed his obsession to Girls’ Generation saying, “Sunny, don’t let me go. I love Soshi.” Super Junior’s Leeteuk helped Sunny’s claim by saying that Boom has Sunny’s photo as his phone’s wallpaper.

Boom then started to explain, “Soldiers like women. We had a skit to get military personnel laughing, but there weren’t any guest singers. They seemed tired from laughing at my stories, so I tried calling Sunny. I said, ‘Don’t hang up,’ because it was still a broadcast.”

Yuri and Sooyoung Relive Childhood Memories on “Dalgona” Chuseok Special

Girls’ Generation’s Yuri and Sooyoung appeared on the SBS Chuseok Special episode of “Dalgona” with their respective childhood friends, where they revealed stories from their past.
On the set, Yuri’s friends revealed, “Since she was little, Yuri was a mirror princess. Her house was full of mirrors, starting from the entrance of her house, all the way to her room. Whenever she would walk by a mirror in the living room, she would practice making pretty faces.”

They surprised everyone by adding, “Once, when we met up for the first time in a while to watch a movie and go out to eat, she left early because she didn’t like what she wore out that day.”

Yuri stated, “Some elementary school students wear the same clothes for days in a row, but I remember changing every single day,” acknowledging her unique ways.

Also, Sooyoung’s first love gained attention on “Dalgona” due to looking like Big Bang’s T.O.P. During the recording, he revealed “first love memories” he had with Sooyoung.

However, their memories were different from the usual first love stories, as Sooyoung dimly remembered him. He stated that he only remembered being rejected by Sooyoung.
Sooyoung’s first love revealed, “When we were in elementary school, we had good feelings for one another, and I heard Sooyoung liked me so I confessed. However, Sooyoung rejected my confession by saying ‘I have to become a singer’.”

Yuri and Sooyoung’s cute childhood stories can be seen on September 12th at 11 am.

Japanese Media says, “Girls’ Generation is the symbol of East-Asian Musical Development”

[Editor's note]: Because the original article contained Japanese names translated into Korean, the romanization of those names may not be completely accurate.

The Japanese media attracted attention by analyzing the background and strategy of Girls’ Generation’s success in Japan as a symbol of East-Asian music’s expansion into the world.
Nihon Keizai Shimbun newspaper’s monthly Nikkei Entertainment analyzed the reason for Girls’ Generation’s success through an interview with Japanese director Tsuchiya Nozomu.
Tsuchiya Nozomu said “trying to figure out ‘how to take Korea’s national superstar Girls’ Generation’ was the beginning of everything”, and that “it isn’t just ‘Japanese expansion’” but rather SM Entertainment trying to spread Girls’ Generation to the world, and they arrived at Japan as the most natural next step.

“Their appeal was almost like watching sports with 9 people as a unified being. I received a physiological shock,” said Tsuchiya.  ”So ‘Tell Me Your Wish (GENIE)’ was chosen as their debut song,” he revealed.
Originally, when Girls’ Generation was expanding to Japan, they were planning to translate about two songs which received success in Korea as their initial Japanese release, and produce their subsequent albums afterwards.
When choosing their debut song, the nominees were “Tell Me Your Wish (GENIE)” and “Gee”.
Tsuchiya, while considering “how should we deliver the appeal we felt of Girls’ Generation”, it was finally decided that “Tell Me Your Wish” was the song where Girls’ Generation’s group dancing was best represented in and the company, who wanted to have “Gee” as the debut song, was convinced to reconsider.

Nikkei Entertainment said Japan’s music largely emphasizes the lyrics, which is an obstacle in crossing borders. They further assessed that “the lyrics of Girls’ Generation’s first original song, ‘Mr. Taxi’, also faithfully follow their concept of impact & repeat”.
At the end of the article, Nikkei Entertainment referred to Cheuzia Nozomu, saying, “the reason these challenges and aggressive production was possible was because Girls’ Generation’s ability, work speed, and efficiency was overwhelmingly high” and further assessed that “Girls’ Generation possesses all of America’s big entertainment, Europe’s intellect, and Asia’s precision. They are the symbolic presence of East Asia forming the center of the world’s musical market.”
